I lost count on how many times I tried to replicate my mother in law’s dish … but I finally nailed it 😂👏 . I’ve asked her for the recipe, but you know OG Asian folks don’t measure nothing 😭😭 . THIS IS ASIAN HAMBURGER HELPER… enough said .

What you’ll need:

Servings: 5-7

  • 1lb elbow macaroni

  • 1.5lb Ground turkey

  • 1/4 cup Oyster sauce

  • 1/8 cup Soy sauce

  • 1/8 cup fish sauce

  • 1 tsp dark Mushroom sauce

  • 1 tsp white pepper

  • 1 tsp brown sugar OR sweetener or choice

  • 5 Garlic cloves

  • 2 Green onions

  • 1 tsp Butter

  • 1 tsp Chicken buillon

  • 1/8 tsp chili flakes (optional)

  • 1 small shallot

  • 1/4 cup reserved pasta water

Instructions:

  1. Start off by prepping macaroni based off instructions on package (Make sure to reserve 1/4 cup of pasta water for use later)

  2. While macaroni is prepping, make sauce.

  3. Make sauce—To a bowl, add oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, mushroom sauce, white pepper, brown sugar, chicken bullion, and chili flakes . Mix well and set aside.

  4. Prep garlic cloves, green onions, and shallot. —Coarsely chop into fine pieces and place into a large mixing bowl. (Save some green onions for garnish later)

*If you like the taste of raw shallots, reserve the shallots to add in later .

  5. Remove ground turkey from package and place into same mixing bowl with green onions and garlic .

*you can sub with any other protein. Try ground beef, chicken, or shrimp !

  6. Add half of sauce into the ground turkey mixture and combine well. Set to the side.

  7. Check on macaroni — reserve about 1/4 cup of pasta water, and drain the macaroni. Set to the side,

  8. Cook ground turkey mixture— Heat up a large skillet pan or wok on high heat and add in a few tsps of olive oil, add in turkey mixture and stir fry until turkey is cooked though.

*add in shallot here, once turkey is cooked through, if you didn’t add it to the meat mixture

  9. Lower heat to low and add in drained macaroni to cooked turkey, followed by the rest of reserved sauce from earlier, butter, and spinach. Slowly drizzle in reserved pasta water until desired consistency. Mix until well combined and then turn off heat.

*You can also sub the spinach with any other vegetables. It would be bomb with some broccoli and mushrooms !

  10. Garnish with more green onions and chili flakes !

  11. Enjoy right away!

*this is a great dish to use as a meal prep too since it lasts a good 3 days stored in an airtight container In the fridge.
